Spit-up Machine!

What do you get when you have an active, teething baby who also has acid reflux??? Spit-up, spit-up, and even more spit-up!

Cooper has always been a very active baby, but lately he has been moving around non-stop. He continues to creep on his belly, which puts added pressure on his stomach, ultimately causing him to spit-up. Then, there is the teething component. Cooper finds it soothing to shove anything and everything into his mouth, which causes him to gag. The gagging is usually followed by a burp and a nice pile of puke. Finally, Cooper's acid reflux issue has worsened during the last few months. We have tried AR "added rice" formula. We have tried oatmeal cereal in his feedings. We have tried to keep him upright for several minutes after his feeding. We have also tried Zantac, which is supposed to reduce the amount of acid in the stomach. NOTHING IS WORKING and the spit-up continues to be a problem!!!

I am having a difficult time keeping up with it anymore. I walk around the house each day constantly cleaning up little (sometimes big) piles of spit-up on the floor. I am also bleaching, Oxy cleaning, and laundering Cooper's clothes on a daily basis in order to remove the nasty stains before they set in. Our pediatrician said that some babies have an underdeveloped "flap" that allows food to go from the eshophogus into the stomach...this is what she thinks is the problem with Cooper. She also said that some babies are just "spitters" and there is really nothing that can be done about it. As long as he is gaining weight, there is nothing to worry about (and we all know that gaining weight is not an issue for Cooper!). Finally, the doctor mentioned that this problem can last well into the baby's second year.........she's got to be kidding, right?

On a more positive note, Cooper is reaching some of those important large motor milestones. He is now starting to crawl on all fours and is able to pull himself up into a standing position. Unfortunately, all of this extra activity and independence had lead to many face-plants...and a whole lot of tears...ouch!

Check out these thighs and calves!

And, it looks as if we may need to block off the stairs!!!

Whew! I had a lot of catching-up to do. The new pics are great, especially the one of Cooper chewing on the coaster. Looks like he just flew in on the "red-eye" flight! Keep up the excellent work, mom. You do a great job!
Love, Dad

The pics are awesome! Put the one of him in a onesie somewhere safe. With that hair and those thighs, you can safely use this as blackmail when he's torturing you as a teenager!

Didn't sign that blackmail e-mail and also forgot to include what a cutie patootie little ole Cooper is! :)
