So potty training has been very hit-or-miss for the past several months. There are times when Sophie will go on the potty for a few consecutive days, then she may not go again for another few weeks. She is still in diapers, but will occasionally ask to wear big girl underwear for part of the day. After reading a book that teaches potty training techniques based on your child's behavior and temperament, I have resisted the urge to "push" Sophie to use the potty. Since she is what we consider a "strong-willed" child, she likes and wants to do things on "her terms." This book was very helpful to me because I learned that instead of pushing Sophie to use the potty, I needed to give her more control over this process.

Magically, over the past week or so, Sophie has been letting me know when she has to go potty. Usually, she has already gone in her diaper, but then manages to trickle out a few drops on the potty in order to earn her sticker and M&M's. However, she is now able to recognize when she has to go, which is a huge step in the right direction. Sophie is has also managed to go #2 on the potty a few times, too! As you can see, Sophie's potty chart is filling up with stickers. We are so proud of her and hope that she continues to make such great progress.
